Healthcare

Access to healthcare services is an important factor in the quality of life, and the Greater Bridgeport Area offers a variety of healthcare facilities.

Two medical centers, The Hartford Healthcare St. Vincent’s Medical Center and the Bridgeport Hospital of the Yale-New Haven hospital system, provide for many of the healthcare needs of area residents. Additionally, numerous clinics, specialized medical centers, and private practices ensure residents have access to comprehensive healthcare services. Bridgeport Hospital and St. Vincent’s each employ more than 2,500 healthcare associates.


Bridgeport Hospital

Bridgeport Hospital is a private, not-for-profit acute care hospital in Bridgeport, primarily serving patients from Fairfield and New Haven counties. Burn patients are seen in the Connecticut Burn Center – the only burn center in Connecticut – from throughout the state and neighboring states.

Bridgeport Hospital is a member of Yale New Haven Health which is comprised of Yale New Haven Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Westerly Hospital and Northeast Medical Group.

Bridgeport Hospital has 501 licensed inpatient beds on two campuses, one in Bridgeport and one in Milford (plus 42 beds licensed under Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital), more than 2,600 employees, more than 1,100 active physicians representing more than 60 sub-specialties and 230 medical/surgical residents and fellows in programs affiliated with Yale School of Medicine.

Bridgeport Hospital discharges more than 23,000 inpatients per year and handles nearly 350,000 outpatient encounters.


St. Vincent’s Medical Center/
Hartford HealthCare

Since its founding by the Daughters of Charity in 1903, St. Vincent’s has been dedicated to helping patients in Bridgeport and throughout Fairfield County.

St. Vincent’s Medical Center is a fully Catholic hospital with more than 3,500 associates, a licensed 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and St. Vincent’s Special Needs Services. St. Vincent’s is part of Hartford HealthCare, the state’s most comprehensive healthcare network.

St. Vincent’s is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as high performing in treatment for heart failure, stroke, and kidney failure; by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center; with Gold Plus and Honor Roll status by the American Heart Association for its Heart Failure program and Stroke program; as a Comprehensive MS Center by the National MS Society; and was recognized by the Women’s Choice Awards for Best Hospitals for bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, obstetrics, orthopedics, and stroke center.
