Public Transportation

The Greater Bridgeport Area has one of the most extensive public transportation systems in the nation, including bus service and commuter rail.

The area is served by Greater Bridgeport Transit which operates more than 50 buses on 16 routes that include the towns of Fairfield, Stratford, and Trumbull and the City of Bridgeport.

More than 31,000 workers in the Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk Metropolitan Statistical Area use the Greater Bridgeport Area’s commuter rail system. MTA Metro-North commuter rail line provides daily passenger rail service between New Haven, Connecticut and New York City, the most heavily traveled commuter rail line in the nation; Bridgeport, Fairfield, and Stratford have stations along the Metro-North line with bus service branching off from each station.

Passengers can travel from New Haven to Boston, Massachusetts on Amtrak, from New Haven to New London, Connecticut on CTrail Shore Line East commuter rail, or from New Haven to Hartford, Connecticut and on to Springfield, Massachusetts on CTrail’s Hartford Line.

Bridgeport’s Intermodal Transportation facility links local bus service with the train stations and the Bridgeport/Port Jefferson Ferry terminal.
